Termites are nasty little creatures that can get into your walls and floors and eat away at your property. They typically live in large colonies and as they don’t like direct sunlight, they’ll find a way into your timber then, before you know it, you are overrun. Luckily, professional Gold Coast pest control experts, such as our team at Bug Squad, use a system called termite baiting to remove these uninvited guests.
What is Termite Baiting?
Termite baiting is a system our team uses outside your home to attract termites then they take the bait back to their nest. This way, the entire colony is soon knocked out and you’ll have stopped the flow of insects throughout your home. If you’re worried about children or animals ingesting the substance, rest assured that termite baits carry very low to no toxicity levels for humans, pets and wildlife. Therefore, baits are a good alternative to using a barrier of chemicals, which is another common method for destroying termites but not as safe or natural as termite baiting and monitoring.
How Does Termite Baiting Work?
Termite baits are set up outside the structure of the home that the troublemakers are trying to invade. Once our Gold Coast termite technician is sure of the presence of termites in the baiting system, a white powder is applied that the termites feed on then carry back to their colony. In the bait is a growth inhibitor for insects and, as a result, their jaws soften. Therefore, it will take about 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the size and type of insect, before the colony will be wiped out.
The bait is safe to use, has no smell and only affects specific insects with an exoskeleton, so your pets and children are safe if they come into contact with the substance.
